THE PROBLEM

What's different in Nigeria

01

Mobile first, at scale

The Nigerian Communications Commission reports more than 197 million active mobile subscriptions (August 2026). Most customers meet you on a phone first.

02

Consent for marketing

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission's 2025 directive requires consent for direct marketing, and the Act lets people object to it at any time.

03

Registration for "major importance"

Controllers and processors of major importance must register with the Commission. Under the 2025 directive that can include anyone processing data of more than 200 people in six months.

04

Data leaving Nigeria

Transfers abroad need adequate protection, such as a law, binding corporate rules or contractual clauses, or another basis in the Act, and the basis must be recorded.

05

Growth on paid installs

When growth runs on paid acquisition, you need attribution you can trust and fraud protection that does its job.

FAQS

The questions people ask us first.

Do you have people in Nigeria?

We're based in South Africa, between Johannesburg and Cape Town, and work alongside local partners in Nigeria.

Do we need to register with the NDPC?

If you're a controller or processor of major importance, yes. The Commission's 2025 directive sets out who that is, including anyone processing data of more than 200 people in six months and businesses in sectors such as communications, e-commerce and insurance.

Do we need consent to send marketing?

Yes. The Commission's 2025 directive requires consent for direct marketing, and people can object at any time, after which you must stop.

Can our customer data be hosted outside Nigeria?

Yes, if the destination offers adequate protection (for example through binding corporate rules or contractual clauses) or another basis in the Act applies. You must record the basis you rely on.
