DOMO vs Power BI: which one will your business actually use?

Power BI is hard to beat if you live in Microsoft. DOMO earns its keep when your data is everywhere and the people who need it aren't analysts. Here is how to choose.

The short answer

If your business runs on Microsoft 365 and has people comfortable in Power Query, Power BI is hard to beat. If your data is spread across many systems and lots of non-analysts need answers, DOMO is worth a serious look.

WHICH ONE, WHEN

When each one is the better choice.

Pick Power BI when…

  • You're on Microsoft 365 E5 or Office 365 E5, which include Power BI Pro.
  • Your analysts already live in Excel and Power Query.
  • A small number of people build and view reports, so per-user pricing works out cheapest.

Pick DOMO when…

  • Your data lives in lots of systems and you want them connected without a long engineering project.
  • Lots of people need access: DOMO prices on usage, with unlimited users.
  • Business users, not analysts, need to build their own views.
HOW WE HELP

How we help

The dashboard is the easy part. Getting the data right underneath it is where BI projects live or die.

01

An honest assessment

Where your data lives, who needs what, and which platform fits. Even if that means sticking with Power BI.

02

Connecting your sources

CRM, finance, operations and marketing data in one place, with definitions people agree on.

03

Dashboards people open

Built with the teams who will use them, not handed over in a PDF.

04

Training

So your people can build their own views instead of queueing for the data team.

IN THE INTEREST OF FAIRNESS

Who we partner with

DOMO is a partner of ours. In September 2026 Progress Software completed its purchase of DOMO's data platform business, so DOMO is now part of the Progress product portfolio. If Power BI is the better fit for you, we'll say so.

FAQS

The questions people ask us first.

Is Power BI cheaper than DOMO?

Power BI publishes per-user prices, from $14 a month for Pro. DOMO prices on usage, with unlimited users, and quotes on request. Which works out cheaper depends on how many people need access and how much data you move, so compare on your real numbers.

Do Power BI viewers need a licence?

Usually, yes. People viewing shared content need Pro or Premium Per User, unless the content sits in Premium capacity or Fabric F64 and above.

Does Copilot come with Power BI Pro?

No. Microsoft says Copilot in Power BI needs paid Fabric capacity (F2 or higher) or Power BI Premium (P1 or higher). A Pro or Premium Per User licence on its own isn't enough.

Who owns DOMO now?

Progress Software completed its purchase of DOMO's AI and data platform business in September 2026, and DOMO now sits in the Progress product portfolio.

Can we use both?

Some businesses do, for example Power BI for finance and DOMO for operational dashboards. It works, but two tools means two sets of definitions to keep in line.
