AppsFlyer vs Branch: attribution first, or deep linking first?

Both are good, both are partners of ours, and both now do most of what the other does. The real question is which job matters more to you. Here is how to decide.

The short answer

Pick AppsFlyer if measuring paid acquisition across lots of ad networks is the main job. Pick Branch if deep links and web-to-app journeys matter as much as attribution. If you don't pay for installs yet, you may not need either.

WHICH ONE, WHEN

When each one is the better choice.

Pick AppsFlyer when…

  • Paid acquisition across many networks is the main job, and attribution is what you'll be judged on.
  • You want fraud protection and cost data in the same tool as your attribution.
  • You're early, not paying for installs yet, and want measurement and deep links free on Zero.

Pick Branch when…

  • Deep links are central: emails, social posts and web journeys must land people on exactly the right screen.
  • You want web-to-app banners and deferred deep linking as a core part of the setup.
  • You were on Firebase Dynamic Links and replacing your links is the urgent job.

Pick neither when…

  • You don't pay for installs. Organic growth doesn't need a measurement partner.
  • Your analytics tool and plain App Links and Universal Links may be all you need for now.
HOW WE HELP

How we help

Picking the tool is the easy part. Setting it up so the numbers hold up in a budget meeting is the work.

01

An honest pick

We look at your networks, your budget and how much deep links matter, and recommend one. Or neither.

02

Implementation

SDK, in-app events, ad network connections and iOS measurement, tested on real phones.

03

Deep links that work

Links that open the right screen for people with and without the app.

04

Connecting the rest

Attribution data flowing into Amplitude, your engagement platform and your dashboards.

IN THE INTEREST OF FAIRNESS

Who we partner with

AppsFlyer and Branch are both partners of ours, so we have no reason to push one over the other.

FAQS

The questions people ask us first.

Do we need a mobile measurement partner at all?

If you pay for installs on more than one network, yes: you need one neutral source of truth. If your growth is organic, probably not yet.

Can AppsFlyer do deep linking, and Branch do attribution?

Yes. AppsFlyer has OneLink for deep linking, and Branch has Branch Performance for ad attribution. The difference is emphasis and what each plan includes, so compare the plan you would actually buy.

What about iOS privacy?

Both support Apple's SKAdNetwork. Branch also supports AdAttributionKit, Apple's newer framework that builds on SKAdNetwork, for Apple Ads campaigns. Expect less detail on iOS than on Android either way.

Google is retiring parts of Privacy Sandbox on Android. Does that matter?

Google announced in October 2025 that it is retiring several Privacy Sandbox technologies, including the Attribution Reporting API on Android, and lists them as scheduled for phase-out. It's worth asking how your measurement partner handles it, but it doesn't change the choice between these two.

Is switching between them painful?

It means a new SDK, new links and new network setups, so it's real work. Worth it if the current tool doesn't fit; not worth it for a small saving.
